The Church and the community
We believe the Church is a global, spiritual community under the headship of Christ. The local and distinct expression in America is often reduced to a non-profit organization and its property. We attempt to steward responsibilities from both Scripture and American laws that prioritize love of neighbor and the welfare of a city.
We intentionally do little as an institution because of the harm abuses of power have caused people, and done so in God’s name. We trust the Spirit of God to work in people and produce fruit consistent with Christ. We are re-constructing a culture that is not tied to a person or personality, and elevating the name of Christ above all. We are a church that is not “church-centric,” in the sense of offering programs unto ourselves like most other modern churches, but rather organically gather to honor and praise Jesus for the continued testimony of His grace and mercy in our lives.
Mission is not expressed through selfish ambition or historical colonialism, but rather a desire to steward the riches, revelation, gifts, resources, and power in service and humility towards others, while mutually posturing ourselves to receive and learn from other people and communities we intersect and commune with. The welfare and healing of our beloved city is what we seek, and this we do in Jesus’ name.
